Preserving the past

The Historic Summerlin House

Staircase at The Historic Summerlin House

Fascination with East Anniston's rich history has led us to dig deeper into the property's past. We're spending time at the Anniston library's Alabama Room and talking with area residents who have memories of the Ordway family. As the story unfolds, we'll share it here and on social media.

What we do know is: the graceful two-story home on Christine Avenue was built by the Ordway family in the 1920s. In the 1980s, the property was converted into professional office space for the counseling practice of Bob and Alice Summerlin.

Heflin resident Steve Swafford purchased the property in 2018. To highlight the home's aesthetic details, minor renovations are underway. The project includes removing carpets to reveal hardwood floors on the upper level and taking down modern stucco ceilings.
